31 December 2024

According to Balak Ogola, the speaker of Nabuyoga Sub-County, Okoth was found hanging from the roof of his house hours after publicly declaring atop his father's grave that he would meet a terrible death.

Tragedy has struck Namwanga Village in Nabuyoga Sub-County, Tororo District, where a 48-year-old man, Dawson Okoth, also known as Okoth Dawu, ended his life shortly after making a chilling vow at his late father's grave.

According to Balak Ogola, the speaker of Nabuyoga Sub-County, Okoth was found hanging from the roof of his house hours after publicly declaring atop his father's grave that he would meet a terrible death.

The incident is believed to have been triggered by a heated conflict with his brother, which had been brought to the attention of the village chairperson's office.

Stephen Onyango, a lay reader at Namwanga Church of Uganda and councilor for Bumanda Parish, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.

"It is devastating to lose a member of our Christian community in such a tragic way," he said, urging residents to seek counsel during moments of anger or despair.

Michael Owor, the head Christian at Namwanga Church of Uganda, suggested that domestic troubles, including misunderstandings with Okoth's wife, may have contributed to the incident.

Community leaders have called for unity and the strengthening of conflict resolution mechanisms to prevent similar tragedies.

"We urge residents to seek guidance from elders, religious leaders, or local authorities when facing challenges," Onyango added.

The incident has left Namwanga Village in deep shock, with residents grappling to understand what led Okoth to such a desperate decision.

Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death. Meanwhile, counseling services are being extended to the bereaved family and the wider community to help them cope with the tragedy.
