Hajjat Kakungulu, the mother of Prince Kassim Kakungulu Nakibinge and widow of the late Dr Badru Kakungulu, passed away on the morning of December 30, 2024, at the International Hospital Kampala
The Muslim community is mourning the passing of Hajjat Sarah Kakungulu, a revered matriarch known for her pivotal contributions to education and family life within the Muslim faith.
Hajjat Kakungulu, the mother of Prince Kassim Kakungulu Nakibinge and widow of the late Dr Badru Kakungulu, passed away on the morning of December 30, 2024, at the International Hospital Kampala.
She had been battling with kidney disease. She was 79 years old and had long been disturbed by back issues and leg pain, in addition to her other health challenges.
She leaves behind a legacy of devotion and
service, having played a critical role in fostering unity and growth within the Muslim community.
Dr Muhammad Kiggundu Musoke, speaker of the Kibuli Muslim Leadership, described her as "a pillar of strength in the Muslim community, celebrated for her commitment to preparing and educating Muslim families."
Mourners in Kibuli at the home of Prince Nakibinge Kakungulu Hajjat Kakungulu was deeply involved in supporting Muslim education institutions, offering guidance and resources that enhanced learning and unity among the schools and surrounding communities.
Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago also paid tribute to her contributions.
"She has been educating Muslims and the schools around them," Lukwago said.
"She has been a strong pillar in the education sector. The Muslim education institutions have been guided and supported by her."
Hajjati Kakungulu's life of service was a reflection of her dedication to nurturing the next generation of Muslim leaders and strengthening the community's moral and educational fabric.
She will be laid to rest on December 31, 2024, in Namasumbi, Mukono District.
