The bridge is a vital link for transportation and trade in the area, making its timely completion a top priority.

The renovation of Katete Bridge in Mbarara City, initially expected to be finished before Christmas, is now set to be completed by January 1, 2025.

The Shs366 million project, launched on December 6 and executed by the UPDF Engineering Brigade, was 60% complete by Christmas Day.

Despite earlier delays, city officials remain optimistic that the revised deadline will be met.

City Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi expressed confidence in the ongoing work and urged for its swift completion.

"I hope that the remaining work to be done is way smaller than what has been done. In a very short time, after rectifying the small issues, putting up all the timber and other machinery and equipment, people will freely use the bridge," he said.

The bridge is a vital link for transportation and trade in the area, making its timely completion a top priority.

Mbarara City Engineer William Bananuka affirmed that the remaining tasks are manageable within the given timeframe.

"They are remaining with a few timber to complete this and add iron sheets. We hope by 1st January next year this work will be done," he explained.

As the countdown to the new year continues, both residents and officials eagerly anticipate the completion of the bridge, which promises to restore smooth traffic flow and bolster local commerce.
