After shooting and injuring the 12 year old, the driver fled the scene.
A joint security team from the Crime Intelligence Directorate and Defense Intelligence and Security ( formerly CMI) has arrested a driver who shot and injured a 12-year- old boy who was travelling in a taxi.
During the December, 31 incident in Kyebando, an unknown driver of a Toyota Harrier, registration number UBQ 688B opened fire at a taxi under unclear circumstances injuring Edrine Babalanda.
The shooter later fled the scene.
However, according to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, in an intelligence led operation, the two security outfits arrested Muhammad Kitaka, 50 a contractor and resident at of Ttula, in Kawempe.
"A search was caried out at his home and recovered the suspected pistol used in shooting and the vehicle he was driving that evening UBQ 688 B," Onyango said.
He noted that the pistol is pending ballistic expert analysis while the suspect is also still undergoing interrogation so he can provide more information regarding the case.
"Preliminary investigations have indicated that Kitaka is a civilian with a firearm licence given to him legally."
He said the suspect is still being processed for attempted murder charges.
The incident points to a growing trend of recklessness and disregard for the law by some of the people who are armed.
