- The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised a team comprising of Provincial Organised Crime, Protection and Security Services from Gateway Airport, Polokwane SAPS, Local Criminal Record Centre and Eskom when they intercepted a truck with two trailers along the N1 north next to Esja outside Polokwane on the 16 February 2025 at about 09:30.
The driver was instructed to stop and permission was also granted to search trailers and a truck. Upon searching 27 ton bags fully loaded with copper cables and five loaded with aluminium scrap metals pieces with an estimated value amounting to R2 million.
Eskom personnel were summoned to the scene and managed to identify the copper cable as their property. A 30-year-old foreign national was arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper cables and aluminium pieces.
The suspect will appear on the 18 February 2025 in Polokwane Magistrate's Court.
