Kioga County MP Moses Okot P'Bitek has signaled a potential defection from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), but only if President Museveni meets his conditions.
P'Bitek, who represents Kioga County in Lango sub-region, outlined three key demands: the tarmacking of the road from Namasale to Dokolo and compensation for fishermen who suffered brutality at the hands of UPDF officers.
He said these conditions must be fulfilled before the 2026 elections.
"If President Museveni fulfills these conditions, I will have no option but to join the ruling party," P'Bitek declared.
His statement follows a meeting at State House between Museveni and two other FDC MPs from Northern Uganda--Anthony Akol of Kilak North and Emmanuel Ongiertho--last Friday.
As FDC's legal advisor under party president Patrick Amuriat, Bitek's possible shift to NRM could deal a significant blow to the opposition.
Whether Museveni will accept the terms remains to be seen, but his response could determine Bitek's political future.
