26 February 2025

This directive saw the exit of Peter Baleke Kayiira, former Publicity Secretary, and Steven Ndagizimaana, former Vice Chairperson, both of whom are contesting for MP seats in Buwekula County.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has reshuffled its leadership in Mubende District, elevating Pafuladito Kyeyune, the former Kkunga NUP Chairman, to the position of district chairperson.

The restructuring, aimed at consolidating NUP's influence in Buganda ahead of the 2026 elections, was overseen by the party's Central Region Mobilization Chairperson, Faridah Nabatanzi, alongside Greater Mubende focal person, Deguele Kawuma.

During a meeting at the NUP offices in Kirungi Cell, Nabatanzi commended party members for their resilience in keeping Mubende politically active.

She also announced a policy barring in-service leaders seeking parliamentary seats from holding party positions, urging them to focus on their constituencies.

This directive saw the exit of Peter Baleke Kayiira, former Publicity Secretary, and Steven Ndagizimaana, former Vice Chairperson, both of whom are contesting for MP seats in Buwekula County.

The elections resulted in a new leadership lineup, with Kyeyune at the helm, deputized by Johnson Sserubiri.

Other key positions include Damasen Kakooza as General Secretary, Silver Kanyike as Publicity Secretary, and Geoffrey Muganza as Finance Secretary.

Kyeyune pledged to strengthen NUP's base in Mubende, emphasizing the need for unity and commitment.

He also introduced newly elected constituency leaders, including Moses Musasizi Ssemata for Mubende Municipality and Sam Kaanakayeesu for Buwekula South.

Hope Felister Nanyanzi, the NUP Woman MP aspirant for Mubende, welcomed the restructuring, calling it a sign of party democracy.

Damasen Kakooza, the new General Secretary, praised outgoing leaders for their service, promising to build on their foundation as the party prepares for the 2026 elections.
