MOMBASA, Kenya -- The Mama Haki Foundation successfully hosted its 4th Annual Grand Iftar in Likoni, Mwahima, Mombasa County, with a renewed focus on addressing parenting challenges, security concerns, and children's healthcare.
The event, held on March 10, 2025, saw nominated Senator Miraj Abdillahi Kimby lead discussions under the theme "Malezi Bora na si bora malezi" (Quality Parenting vs. Just Parenting).
The theme underscored the urgent need to improve parenting practices to curb moral decline and rising insecurity in Mombasa and its environs.
"We cannot ignore the connection between parenting practices and the challenges we face today in our communities," Senator Miraj stressed, calling on parents to actively guide and mentor their children.

Senator Mariam Omar from Mandera County took the opportunity to champion children's healthcare access, urging parents to register their children with the Strategic Health Authority (SHA) health insurance program.
"Healthcare access is a fundamental right for every child, and parents must take advantage of available resources like the SHA program to ensure their children's wellbeing," she emphasized.
Religious leaders played a key role in the forum, with Sheikh Prof Mjahid Othman outlining Islamic teachings on parenting responsibilities and community values during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ministry of Interior and National Administration Secretary for Peacebuilding and Conflict Management Mohamed Bare encouraged Likoni residents to embrace dialogue as a means to foster unity and cooperation across the coastal region.
