Each beneficiary received a package containing five kilograms of rice, ten kilograms of posho, one litre of cooking oil, salt, sugar, and soap.
A total of 240 underprivileged Muslims in Tororo Municipality have received food relief to support them in breaking their Ramadan fast, just two days before the holy month comes to an end.
The donation was secured through the lobbying efforts of the area Member of Parliament, Apollo Yeri Ofwono, from Onsur, a Muslim organization.
Each beneficiary received a package containing five kilograms of rice, ten kilograms of posho, one litre of cooking oil, salt, sugar, and soap.
The recipients, all aged 40 years and above, were drawn from seven mosques within the municipality.
Many expressed deep gratitude for the support, noting that they had been struggling to afford meals for breaking their fast.
"My brother, yesterday we almost went to bed on empty stomachs. We only had tea before sleeping," shared Zainab Ismail, a resident of Nyangole.
Hawa Namuwaya from Juba Centre praised Ofwono for his efforts, acknowledging that such support had never reached them before his term in office.
"We pray that Allah protects our MP so that he secures another term in Parliament. He has really been there for us," she said.
Addressing the media, Ofwono said he lobbied for the food relief in response to the financial hardships many residents are facing.
"Many people here are struggling to make ends meet. This initiative was necessary to support our Muslim brothers and sisters during this sacred period," he noted.
The donation comes as Ramadan nears its conclusion, a time when Muslims observe fasting from dawn to dusk while emphasizing charity, prayer, and reflection.
