The African Development Bank Group, in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Botswana, will host an event on 15 April 2025 in Gaborone to mark the Bank's 60th anniversary.

Under the theme "60 Years of Making a Difference," the diamond jubilee celebration will showcase the Bank's journey since its establishment on 10 September 1964, its transformative role in Africa's development, and its vision for the continent's future. The event will also highlight the Bank's commitment and contribution to Botswana's growth and development.

Botswana's Vice President and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Ndaba Gaolathe, and the African Development Bank's Director General for Southern Africa, Leila Mokaddem, will deliver speeches at the event. The Bank's Deputy Director General for Southern Africa, Moono Mupotola, and members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, government officials, and private sector representatives, will attend the diamond jubilee event.

Since 1973, the Bank Group has approved 66 operations in Botswana with a cumulative value of $2.5 billion, supporting transformative projects across multiple sectors, including agriculture, finance, power, transport, and industry.

This event follows a year of vibrant celebrations across Africa to mark the African Development Bank's 60th anniversary. The commemorations began at the Bank's Annual Meetings in Kenya in May 2024 and culminated in a major celebration at its headquarters in Abidjan in September.
