Uganda: Napak District Gets Full District Health Officer After 15 Years

For the first time in 15 years, Napak District has a substantive District Health Officer (DHO), with Dr. Charles Nuwagaba Kakuhikire officially taking over from Dr. Timothy Teko, who has been serving as Acting DHO.

The handover ceremony, held on Tuesday, 13th May 2025, brought together key district leaders, including the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Principal Human Resource Officer, Assistant District Health Officer for Environmental Health, District Auditor, Chief Finance Officer, and the Principal Assistant Secretary.

Outgoing Acting DHO Timothy Teko expressed both pride and relief during the ceremony.

"It has been an honor to serve this district in an acting capacity for all these years. While the challenges were many, I am proud of the resilience we've shown. I now hand over with confidence, knowing the health sector is in capable hands," he said.

Incoming DHO Dr. Charles Nuwagaba Kakuhikire pledged to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor.

"This appointment is another milestone for me. I am here to serve, to strengthen our health systems, and to ensure that quality healthcare is guaranteed," he said.

The district leadership welcomed the transition as a turning point in efforts to improve health service delivery in one of Uganda's most underserved regions.
