Kenya: Carrefour Marks 9 Years in Kenya With Sh20mn Customer Campaign

Nairobi — Carrefour, operated in Kenya by Majid Al Futtaim, is marking its ninth anniversary in the country with a nationwide customer campaign worth over Sh20 million, including a grand prize draw for a new car valued at Sh1.3 million.

The retailer, which launched in Kenya in 2016, now runs 29 stores and employs over 2,800 people. Carrefour has steadily expanded its footprint in the country's retail sector through partnerships with more than 690 local farmers, manufacturers, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It also supports indirect employment across its supply chain.

As part of the anniversary campaign, which runs from May 26 to June 12, more than 3,000 shoppers will have the chance to win their entire shopping bill at checkout through a "Spin the Wheel" promotion. Shoppers spending at least Sh1,000 on select partner brands will be entered into a draw for the grand prize car, with the winner set to be announced on June 13.

The initiative also includes discounts of up to 50 percent on a wide range of products across all Carrefour outlets and its online shopping platform.

Carrefour's growing presence in Kenya has come amid intensifying competition in the local retail space, particularly from local and regional players in the supermarket segment. The company has sought to differentiate itself through digital integration, supplier localization, and pricing strategies.

In addition to its retail operations, Majid Al Futtaim has established a Retail Business School in Kenya, aimed at training over 1,500 retail professionals annually, in a move to build local talent capacity and address skills gaps in the retail sector.

The expansion and continued investment by Carrefour underline the evolving dynamics of Kenya's modern retail market and its importance as a hub for regional and international players looking to scale operations in East Africa.
