Busiro County East MP, Medard Lubega Seggona, has revealed his intention to succeed Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, as the next president of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Seggona revealed his aspirations during a recent event, where he stated that he plans to assume the party's top leadership after Kyagulanyi completes what he described as two agreed-upon terms.
"When Kyagulanyi finishes his second term, as we agreed, the next NUP president will come from Busiro, and that will be me," he declared.
Seggona has been a key figure in NUP since its early days, with his legal expertise and strong ties within Buganda's political circles believed to have played a crucial role in shaping its foundation as a leading opposition force.
Seggona's move to join NUP ahead of the 2021 general elections was both calculated and impactful.
He successfully secured re-election to Parliament, positioning himself as a bridge between the party's youthful energy and seasoned political experience.
However, his path within the party has not been without challenges.
His rapport with NUP's rival Mathias Mpuuga has sparked questions within the party ranks. Both men share roots in the Democratic Party (DP) and hail from Buganda, having transitioned into NUP from a common political background.
Sseggona's latest announcement comes at a time NUP is yet to formally outline its top leadership succession plan.
