The deputy spokesperson for the National Unity Platform (NUP), Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro has revealed that the party is set to introduce term limits for its leaders as part of a new constitution that will soon be gazetted.
According to Mufumbiro, the amendment is aimed at strengthening internal democracy within the party.
He made the revelation on Monday during an appearance on Sanyuka Television.

"We are amending our constitution, and the new one will become operational once it is gazetted," Mufumbiro said.
He revealed that the revised constitution includes a new clause limiting party leaders to a maximum of two terms in office.
"According to the new party constitution awaiting gazettement, no leader in NUP will serve for more than two terms," he emphasised.
However, Mufumbiro clarified that the new term limits will not apply retroactively, meaning current party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, remains eligible to lead the party beyond his current term.
"He is operating under the previous constitution, which had no term limits, so this will not be Kyagulanyi's last term as NUP president," Mufumbiro explained.
Last week, Kyagulanyi was re-elected unopposed as NUP president during the party's delegates conference held in Kavule, Kampala.
The event also saw other key party officials retain their positions, including general secretary David Lewis Rubongoya and spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi.
The re-election of the top leadership team without contest has raised concerns among some observers about inclusivity and internal competition within the party.
The timing of the constitutional amendment comes as NUP gears up for the 2026 general elections.
