Namibia: Archery Tourney to Gauge Archers Ahead of World Games

The Archery Association of Namibia (AAN) will next weekend host a national championship that could prove crucial for archers preparing for the upcoming World Games in China this August.

The competition is set to take place on 28 June at Swakopmund's SFC Sport Ground.

The national championship is an annual event.

This year, top archers from across the country will gather to compete for top honours.

Jacqueline Coetzee, a representative of the AAN, said this event will crown Namibia's national champions in both the men's and women's categories.

However, archers have already secured their places at the World Games, scheduled for 7 to 17 August in Chengdu, China.

"Our nationals determine the national winners in both the women's and men's divisions. We already have archers who've qualified for a major international competition, so it won't be a qualifier or anything like that. It's simply a tournament where archers from across the nation will battle it out for the national title," she said.

Despite not being a qualifying event, Coetzee highlighted the importance of this competition as valuable preparation for archers heading abroad.

"It's going to be a very important assignment for archers travelling outside the country anytime soon. I believe the level of competition at this event can help them intensify their preparations," she added.

Registration for the event is N$300 per person.

To compete, participants must be registered with the federation and have paid their membership fees.
