Uganda: Nambooze Calls for Structured Dialogue With President Museveni

Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze has stated that the National Unity Platform (NUP) is open to dialogue with President Museveni, but emphasised the need for a structured and transparent approach.

Nambooze clarified that the party's criticism of the President is not personal but stems from their disapproval of his actions while in office.

"We don't have any problem with dialoguing with President Museveni, but we want a structured dialogue," Nambooze said, underlining the importance of a clear and principled framework for any talks between the opposition and the ruling establishment.

She further stated, "We don't hate President Museveni; we detest the things he does," reflecting the party's continued stand against what it sees as governance failures, without resorting to personal animosity.

In a powerful statement of defiance, Nambooze reiterated NUP's resolve to uphold its values, saying, "As NUP, we would rather stand for a short time than spend a long time on our knees."

Her remarks come at a time of heightened political activity and growing public debate over the possibility of national dialogue ahead of the 2026 general elections. Nambooze's call for a structured engagement signals a potential opening for conversations about Uganda's political future, while reaffirming NUP's position on governance, accountability, and dignity.
