According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, unidentified assailants first smashed the front windows and door of the house before setting it ablaze.
"Fortunately, the victim and his wife managed to escape unharmed and raised an alarm, prompting nearby residents to respond and help extinguish the fire," said Maate.
Ndamanya, a known political agent of Kaberuka, told police he had received a suspicious phone call earlier that evening.
"Someone called me claiming there were voters gathered at Nakunda's home. I refused to go because it was already late," he said. "Just hours later, I found my house under attack."
Hon. Kaberuka condemned the attack as a direct affront to democratic participation.
"This is not just an attack on my agent but on the democratic process itself," he said. "We must protect the right of every Ugandan to engage in politics without fear or intimidation."
Police have since documented the scene and opened investigations to identify the perpetrators and establish their motive.
"We assure the public that no stone will be left unturned," said ASP Maate. "We urge residents to remain calm and report any information that may assist in our inquiries."
The incident comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the NRM party primaries, raising concerns about rising tensions and potential electoral violence in parts of Kanungu.
