Opposition politician Joyce Bagala has said the losses suffered by several NRM incumbents in the recent party primaries are a clear indication that Ugandans are growing weary of the ruling party's leadership.

Bagala, the Mityana Woman MP, noted that the violence witnessed during the primaries came as no surprise, describing it as "a rehearsal" of what could unfold in the 2026 general elections.

"The violence that happened in the NRM primaries is not a surprise to me; it's just a rehearsal of what is yet to come," she said, warning that the chaos may intensify if not addressed.

According to Bagala, the outcome of the primaries offers valuable insight into the possible composition of the next Parliament and should serve as a wake-up call for the opposition to refine its approach.

"The NRM primaries have given us a glimpse of how the next Parliament could look, so as the opposition, we need to strategise accordingly," she stated.

As political temperatures continue to rise ahead of the 2026 polls, observers say the opposition's ability to capitalise on internal discontent within the ruling party could prove decisive.
