Nairobi — Asset financier MOGO has launched a 24-hour toll-free hotline as part of efforts to tackle the rising cases of vehicle and motorcycle theft across the country.
The hotline allows the public and MOGO clients to report stolen assets or suspicious activity and receive immediate assistance. The move follows a surge in theft cases and is expected to enhance coordination with police for asset recovery.
MOGO says more than 150 theft cases have already been reported since the hotline was piloted last month, with over half of the stolen vehicles and motorcycles recovered. The service also supports access to SAKA, Kenya's newly launched digital database of stolen vehicles.
The initiative comes as the country grapples with a growing motor theft problem. According to the Kenya National Economic Survey, over 7,000 cases of vehicle and motorcycle theft have been recorded in the past five years. Yet, despite nearly 6,900 arrests, only fewer than 40 convictions have been secured.
Counties such as Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, and Bungoma have been identified as major hotspots.
MOGO says it is working with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to improve response time and boost recovery rates.
