Sudan: Ministries of Justice and Interior Discuss Legal Conditions in Khartoum State

Khartoum, August 4, 2025 (SUNA) - Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdullah Dirif, met on Monday with Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. (Police) Babiker Samra.

The Minister of Justice stated that the meeting was constructive and discussed joint issues related to the enforcement and rule of law. Urgent issues related to law enforcement were also addressed.

He added that the Minister of Interior briefed him on the significant efforts made by the Ministry of Interior. "We found that all police stations in Khartoum State are operating effectively and efficiently, and that all necessary means have been provided to enforce the law," he added. He pointed out that the deployment of police throughout Khartoum State was a source of pride and has significant implications for the citizens of Khartoum State.

Dr. Dirif explained that the Ministry of Justice would review the legislation related to police work to enable them to fully perform their duties, including immunity for police members while performing their duties.

The Minister of Justice underscored that the formation of the Constitutional Court would reduce the number of death row inmates whose sentences have become final by adjudicating their applications before it.

The Minister of Interior said, "During the meeting, we noticed great interest from the Ministry of Justice in the legal issues discussed, which relate to police work, their duties, and the arrangement of legal procedures." He added that the Minister of Justice confirmed that the maintenance and treatment of those awaiting investigation and trial have been discussed with the relevant authorities (the Public Prosecution, the Judiciary, and the Ministry of Finance), and this matter will be resolved soon.

The Minister of Interior praised the efforts of the Ministry of Justice in arranging the legal situation and correcting some procedural issues that require amendments in some laws.
