Uganda: EC Releases New Dates for Parliamentary and Presidential Aspirants

7 August 2025

The Electoral Commission (EC) has made further adjustments to the nomination schedule for key positions ahead of the 2025 general elections, including Members of Parliament (MPs), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Women MPs, and Presidential aspirants.

According to the updated roadmap, the nomination dates for Women Members of Parliament, previously set for 16th to 17th September, have now been rescheduled to 15th to 16th October 2025.

Aspirants in this category, as well as those eying seats for MPs and PWD representatives in Parliament, will download their nomination forms from the EC website.

Meanwhile, the EC has set Monday, 11th August as the new date for collection of nomination forms and supporter signature forms for presidential aspirants.

These documents must be collected physically from the EC headquarters by either the aspirants, their agents, or party heads. This is intended to help identify individuals who are formally interested in contesting.

"Presidential hopefuls are required to gather signatures from at least two-thirds of all districts (98 in total), seconding their candidacy", Byabakama stated.

The EC has reminded all aspirants that these completed forms must be submitted at least two weeks before the official nomination date, to allow adequate time for signature verification.

The Commission emphasised that early submission will enable a thorough confirmation process of all supporters backing a presidential candidate.

The EC continues to call on all stakeholders to follow the updated guidelines and timelines to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.
