Leaders in the Lango region are gearing up for President Museveni's visit on Sunday, August 17, 2025, amid growing concerns over the delayed cattle compensation program.
Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua, Lira Woman Member of Parliament Linda Agnes Auma, and Kole North County MP Opio Samuel Acuti met with local government officials at Lira District Headquarters to coordinate the President's visit and address ongoing issues.
The meeting focused on the cattle compensation program, which affects over 4,000 households in Lira District who lost cattle during past conflicts.
Leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the number of beneficiaries and the overall compensation process.

"We received the list, there was a display at the sub-county and verification exercise, but of course, there were gaps in several cases which raised questions," said Levi Okodi Macpio, a beneficiary.
Concerns have also emerged over corruption, with some officials reportedly demanding unofficial payments for services.
Judith Ewichu Apilo, Senior Private Secretary to the President on Women Affairs, warned against such practices, stressing the importance of transparency.
"This programme is meant to empower affected households. It must not be hijacked by individuals who seek personal gain at the expense of community development," she said.
Lango leaders have threatened protests if the compensation process is not improved.
"I started advocating for this cattle compensation in 2006... but up to date, this issue is still pending," said Auma.
Francis Abola, Otuke District chairman, added that elderly men and women could be mobilized to storm Parliament if their demands remain unmet.
The President's visit coincides with pressure from the Lango War Claimants Association, which is calling for a more inclusive and timely compensation process.
Moses Michael Odongo Okune, the paramount chief of Lango, recently met with the President to discuss the delays, emphasizing the need for fairness and accountability.
As Museveni visits Lango, local leaders and residents are hopeful that their concerns will be addressed and that the compensation program will finally be expedited.
