Singh Katongole Paminda, vice chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC), has urged party members to avoid using money to influence voters during internal elections.
Speaking on Next Big Talk on Next Radio on Saturday, Katongole emphasized that the NRM is a party built on ideas, service, and national progress--not financial inducements.
"Several people want to serve in the NRM because it is a party that is making progress and taking Uganda forward. Many leaders think they can serve better in the CEC, and that is a good thing," he said.
Katongole highlighted his own experience, noting that his recent victory as the NRM flag bearer for Rubaga North MP was achieved through trust and ideas, not money.
"I have just won the flag bearer race for Rubaga North MP, and nobody in Rubaga can say Katongole has used money. It's the ideas you tell the people about, what you are going to do, and what you have already done for them," he said.
His comments come amid widespread concerns over reports of money, intimidation, and other irregularities during the NRM primaries held on July 17.
As the party prepares for the upcoming CEC elections, Katongole stressed that such practices violate the founding principles of the NRM and undermine internal democracy.
