Uganda: Over 900 Graduate At Cavendish University

Over 900 students have graduated as Cavendish University Uganda held its 14th graduation under the theme: "Empowering Futures: Cultivating Leaders for a Global Tomorrow."

During the ceremony, students were awarded various certificates, diplomas, degrees and masters in different disciplines at the ceremony.

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan Ebele, the institution's chancellor, presided over the event held at the Speke Resort Munyonyo Convention Centre.

"I urge you to carry with you four values including resilience, responsibility, relevance and relentless service," Dr.Goodkuck, advised.

The former Nigerian Head of State observed that the future belongs to those who are bold, ethical, entrepreneurial and innovative.

"I am proud that Cavendish University Uganda has equipped you with the skills to be employable, the mindset to innovative and the values to lead ethically," Dr. Goodluck stated.

The guest of honour was Bernard Paul Mono, the acting Director General of the East African Development Bank, who encouraged the graduates to measure along best global practices.

"I am proud that graduates from Cavendish university are involved in many technology related fronts. This is where the global transformation agenda is hinged upon. We are keen towards financing education that has impact, on communities. Artificial Intelligence" Mono, who heads the regional development bank said.

Dr. Vincent Ogutu, the Vice Chancellor of Kenya's Strathmore University, delivered the commencement speech.

"Values will make you or break you. Organizations and institutions promote and believe in their core values. Understand your values. It will unlock many new opportunities for you," Dr. Oguttu, stressed.

"Do not give up your integrity to corrupt tendencies. Employers love honest workers. Chase after the right wealth and values. Never let go of it" advised the scholar.

This year, over 990 students have graduated including 46 scholarship beneficiaries bringing to over 300 students who have since benefited from the program.

Among the approved academics Programs by the National Council for Higher Education, being offered at Cavendish university includes Laws, Business Administration, Public Health, Project management to Post Graduate level.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olive Sabiiti explained that this reflects Cavendish's contribution to "Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education and Goal 10 on reducing inequality, since education remains the key that opens doors for those who might otherwise have been left behind."

Underscoring Cavendish's teaching capabilities, Prof. Sabiiti, highlighted the fact that "60% of jobs will disappear in the next few year. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation are replacing traditional jobs in a variety of industries, including professional services, banking, and administration."

Several students were recognized for excellence in different disciplines with Robert Adupa, of Bachelor's in Information Technology emerging top [GPA 4.8].

With projections pointing to the fact that up to 60% of current employment may disappear in the ensuing ten years, prompting serious concerns about the value of traditional degrees.

"We are training students who are adapting to the rapidly evolving global landscape in which technology is a vital driver," emphasised Prof. Sabiiti.

Adding that Universities around the world are using competency-based education to close the gap. Cavendish, for instance, "uses AI in project-based learning and case studies to guarantee that students leave with employable, real-world skills."

Among those who graduated at Cavendish University's 14th graduation was Ojon Rainher Aggrey, with a Master of Science degree in Project Management.

"It has been a wonderful training experience over the past 2 years and most significantly the research component."

"After extensive research on project governance and examining its relationship with project agility, I found space to investigate how inter-organisational projects use modern day platforms such as virtual teams and AI to realise agility in their projects," Ojon, stated.

His case study was the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).

"It is important for policy actors and managers to establish and implement robust and collaborative project governance frameworks for all institutions, including policies and systems that encourage integration and shared resource platforms," the project inclusion specialist advised.

Emphasising that "virtual teams in projects can significantly enable flexibility, reduce on operational delays and make substantial outcomes to agile and resilient project delivery when they are properly managed."
