The deputy spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Waiswa Mufumbiro, has been arrested and is currently detained at Kira Police Station, prompting renewed calls for the government to uphold the rule of law.

According to Hon. Ronald Balimwezo, the Nakawa East legislator, Mufumbiro was picked up on Sunday by plain-clothed security personnel who told him he was being taken to Wandegeya Police Station.

He was later confirmed to be held at Kira Police, where he recorded a statement on Monday evening.

Balimwezo said Mufumbiro is facing charges related to alleged illegal drills and cyber harassment. "He wasn't even present at the said drills," the legislator claimed, questioning the basis of the charges.

Former Deputy RCC Rubaga, Anderson Burora, underscored the importance of due process, warning that any deviation undermines public trust in state institutions.

"As leaders, we need the rule of law, and we must always demand that the government operate within it," he said.

Police have not yet issued a formal statement about the arrest or the charges. NUP officials say they will continue to pursue legal remedies, stressing that the matter should be handled transparently and in line with constitutional protections.
