Uganda: Oyam UPC Boss Rallies Support for Museveni

7 October 2025

Uganda People's Congress (UPC) Vice Chairperson for Oyam District, Morris Chris Ongom, has publicly declared his support for President Yoweri Museveni's re-election bid in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Speaking during a rally held at Oyam Booma Grounds on Tuesday, Ongom, who also serves as a local leader within UPC, affirmed his intention to mobilize support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate.

"At my age of 50, I know there are eight candidates cleared to contest for the presidency, but I want to assure you that as Chris Ongom, I will vote for you. I will also work to deliver votes from my family and those who trust my leadership so that you continue serving us for the next five years," Ongom told the gathering.

He praised President Museveni for maintaining peace in Oyam for over two decades, describing the achievement as a transformation from what was once considered an unattainable goal.

"I am not merely making this statement; we have realized that there is none better qualified for this job than yourself," Ongom said.

President Museveni, who is seeking another five-year term in office, has been campaigning across the Lango sub-region, urging citizens to embrace government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) to improve household incomes.

He is expected to continue his campaign trail in the West Nile sub-region in the coming days.
