Uganda: Speaker Among Rallies Bugiri Voters to Back Museveni

7 October 2025

The Speaker of Parliament and National Resistance Movement (NRM) Second National Vice Chairperson, Anita Annet Among, made the remarks while addressing a large gathering at Bulume Primary School in Busowa, on the outskirts of Bugiri Town.

Among told the cheering crowd that President Museveni remains the most reliable leader to steer Uganda's development, citing government initiatives that have transformed livelihoods across the country.

"President Museveni is the leader you know and trust as your own. He has done a lot for Bugiri and the entire Busoga region. This is the time to show appreciation by voting for him overwhelmingly in 2026," Among said.

She was accompanied by Hon. Daudi Kabanda, the Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and MP for Kasambya County, who also urged Bugiri residents to support NRM candidates at all levels.

Kabanda cited the Teso sub-region as an example of how strong support for the ruling party has translated into greater representation in government.

"Teso was rewarded with several key positions, including Vice President, Speaker, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, and Ministers, because they voted for Museveni overwhelmingly. The people of Busoga should do the same in 2026," Kabanda said.

He warned residents against opposition politicians, whom he accused of wanting to undermine government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Among also announced that Bugiri Hospital has officially been upgraded to a Regional Referral Hospital, a development she said reflects President Museveni's commitment to improving health services in Busoga.

"Parliament recently approved funds for the upgrade of Bugiri Hospital to a Regional Referral Hospital. This shows how much President Museveni loves you. It is now your turn to reciprocate that love by voting for him," she said.

The Speaker further noted that government has increased funding for infrastructure and service delivery in the district, including Shs1.3 billion for the road fund and enhanced allocations under the PDM.

She added that parish leaders will each receive Shs15 million to promote transparency in the utilization of PDM funds.

"We need more than 90 percent of the vote for President Museveni in 2026 as a way of thanking him for everything he has done for us," Among emphasized.

Among pledged to work with local leaders to address persistent challenges such as poor roads, unreliable electricity, and youth unemployment.

She directed local mobilizer Eunice Namatende to register ghetto youth, women, boda boda riders, and persons with disabilities in every subcounty to benefit from targeted empowerment initiatives.

"In Parliament, we have a Corporate Social Responsibility vote, and I will use it to support these groups. Once I receive the lists, I will channel the funds through Hon. Daudi Kabanda and Hon. Solomon Silwanyi to ensure they reach the people," Among said.

She thanked Bugiri residents for their overwhelming support during the recent NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections, saying their confidence motivates her to continue engaging directly with communities.

"In the last CEC elections, delegates from Bugiri voted for me overwhelmingly. I will continue returning to Bugiri because you are the best," she added.

The rally attracted hundreds of residents, NRM leaders, and local mobilizers, who praised Among for her accessibility and for championing development programs in Busoga
