Uganda: Vote Wisely to Secure Uganda's Future, Janet Museveni Tells Nebbi

12 October 2025

The First Lady Janet Museveni, who also doubles as the Minister for Education and Sports has urged Ugandans to vote wisely in the upcoming 2026 general election so as to secure the country's future.

"All Ugandans should remember that while in the electoral season, every one of us who has a vote has a responsibility to vote for a peaceful Uganda. Some of you remember when Uganda wasn't peaceful. The young people may not know where we have come from as a country but I want to tell you we shouldn't play about with our peace and freedom in this land God gave us. We have one homeland on planet earth and if we mess it up, we have no other homeland to go to,"she said.

Mrs Museveni was on Saturday speaking to crowds that gathered at Namrwodho Primary School Playground in Nebbi Municipality.

Referencing the old turbulent days that the country has gone through, the First Lady said whereas the youths, who are the majority may not have witnessed this period, it is prudent for them to safeguard the peace the country is experiencing.

"Development, prosperity, transformation -- all that builds on peace and freedom in our land if we maintain it," she said.

"Please remember, you have a responsibility to your family, to your district, and to your country to ensure that peace and freedom remain in Uganda. And God is using the NRM in this season to fight for that freedom and peace."

Speaking at the same rally, President Museveni told the crowd that 65 years ago, the NRM identified the country's problems and started working to solve them.

"The reason for peace in Uganda is because of our ideology. We don't believe in tribalism. Sectarianism of tribe or religion is not good for the country. We were members of old political parties ourselves and by 1965 we had seen this danger and decided to join youth study groups. Our ideology of patriotism and pan Africanism has enabled us create institutions like the army which could guard the country," Museveni said.

"I remember soldiers from Nebbi here killed because of their tribe during Amin's time like Brigadier Hussein but since coming to power, we have been able to create unity. The reason there is peace in Uganda today is because we don't believe in sectarianism -- not of religion, not of tribe, and not of gender. We value every citizen equally. The people of West Nile are the best witnesses of peace that previously you could run up to DRC Congo and South Sudan(because of wars)."

He urged people to vote for NRM and its flag bearers.
