Nairobi — Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge has paid tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, lauding his immense contribution to Kenya's economy, history, and society.
In a statement, Thugge described Odinga as a visionary leader whose guidance and leadership positively shaped the nation over the decades.
"The Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Dr. Kamau Thugge, CBS, and the Board, Management, and Staff of the Central Bank of Kenya join the nation in mourning the passing of The Right Honourable Raila Odinga, EGH," CBK said in a statement.
"The passing of Rt. Hon. Odinga is a moment of profound grief for the people of Kenya. Hon. Odinga's impact on Kenya's history, economy, and society was immense. Throughout his long life and career, Hon. Odinga shaped the affairs of the nation in positive ways through his leadership, vision, and wise counsel."
Odinga passed away earlier today in India after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to the BBC, which reported that attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
At the time of his death, the former Prime Minister was 80 years old.
