Uganda: Munyagwa Pauses Presidential Campaign to Back Bigirwa's Kamuli Municipality Bid

Presidential candidate and Common Man's Party (CMP) flag bearer, Mubarak Munyagwa, has suspended his presidential campaign in Makindye to show solidarity with the party's Secretary General, Moses Bigirwa, ahead of his nomination for Kamuli Municipality MP.

Speaking to journalists in Kamuli, Munyagwa said the pause was intended to demonstrate party unity and highlight the importance of supporting strong leaders capable of advancing the CMP's agenda nationwide.

"Moses Bigirwa has been a consistent and courageous voice for the people. His contribution to politics in Uganda, and especially in the Busoga region, cannot be ignored. He is a regional political force, second only to Rebecca Kadaga in influence," Munyagwa said.

He described Bigirwa as a devoted and strategic leader whose experience and connection with grassroots communities make him the right candidate to represent Kamuli Municipality in Parliament.

Political observers interpret Munyagwa's move as an effort to strengthen CMP's presence in Eastern Uganda, where Bigirwa enjoys considerable support.

Bigirwa welcomed the gesture, calling it a sign of solidarity and teamwork within the party. He reaffirmed his commitment to serve the people of Kamuli Municipality with transparency, accountability, and dedication if elected.

The Electoral Commission is expected to officially nominate parliamentary candidates later this week as preparations for the 2026 general elections intensify.
