Uganda: FDC Says Security Kidnapped Candidate Before Nomination in Nakapiripirit

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has alleged that its parliamentary candidate, Joshua Losur, was kidnapped by security personnel hours before his scheduled nomination in Nakapiripirit District.

According to Augustine Ojobile, the FDC Electoral Commission Secretary, Losur was allegedly abducted on the night of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, ahead of his official nomination set for 2 PM on Wednesday, October 22.

"Our candidate, Joshua Losur, who was supposed to be nominated, has been kidnapped by security. We are demanding his immediate release," Ojobile told this publication.

Losur, who previously contested for the Chekwii East County MP seat and finished second to Stephenson Lokoru Yoyo, recently defected from the ruling NRM party to join FDC.

His move had drawn attention in Karamoja's political circles, as he was seen as a strong contender in the upcoming election.

The alleged incident has sparked tension among FDC supporters in Nakapiripirit, with party officials accusing security agencies of political persecution aimed at frustrating opposition participation.

However, police have denied knowledge of any abduction. Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole dismissed the claims as politically motivated.

"We have not received any report of a kidnap. What FDC is alleging could be one of their tactics to draw public sympathy," Longole said, urging the party to file an official complaint for proper investigation.

Despite police denial, FDC officials say they will continue demanding answers about Losur's whereabouts.

The allegation comes amid the ongoing parliamentary nomination exercise across Uganda, with opposition parties frequently accusing security forces of intimidation and interference.
