22 October 2025

Aspirants eyeing parliamentary seats in Kampala have begun arriving early at the Kampala Regional Electoral Commission (EC) offices ahead of the official nomination exercise scheduled to kick off across the country.

The Electoral Commission has set this week for the nomination of Members of Parliament, with the exercise taking place at all respective district EC offices nationwide.

In Kampala, final preparations were still underway on Wednesday morning as EC officials made last-minute arrangements to receive the first batch of candidates.

The Kampala Regional Electoral Commission offices are responsible for handling nominations for constituencies across the city's five divisions -- Nakawa (Nakawa East and Nakawa West), Kampala Central, Kawempe (Kawempe North and Kawempe South), Rubaga (Rubaga North and Rubaga South), and Makindye (Makindye East and Makindye West).

Among the early arrivals was Uganda Boxing Federation President and former KCCA official, Moses Muhangi, who is seeking to contest for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.

Another aspirant, Rogers Edward Kiyega, also showed up early to be nominated for the Makindye West constituency, running on an independent ticket.

The EC has emphasized that all aspirants must present valid academic documents, proof of nomination fees, and endorsement signatures from registered voters within their respective constituencies before being cleared.
