Uganda: Mukono Gender Committee Commends Progress On Ntenjeru-Bule Road Construction

The Mukono District Gender Committee has commended the progress of construction works on the 7.8-kilometre Ntenjeru-Bule Road in Mpatta Sub-county, describing the project as a major step toward improving accessibility and service delivery in the area.

The Committee's visit was part of routine monitoring under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Program (GKMA-UDP) to ensure projects are implemented according to contract standards, environmental safeguards, and gender inclusion principles.

The delegation was led by Martha Nassazi, Secretary for Gender and Health and District Councilor for Nakifuma-Naggalama Town Council, accompanied by Mariam Nalwoga (Kasawo Town Council), Florence Birungi (Youth Female District Councilor), Isaac Kitongo (Koome Sub-county Representative), and Florence Kyembuga (Ntenjeru-Kisoga and Mpatta Sub-county Representative).

The District Gender Committee is chaired by Lukeman Ssegayi , the Goma Division Councilor.

On the technical team were Ms. Nsangi Immaculate, Senior Community Development Officer, and Ms Dorah Jjuuko Najjuma, District Probation and Welfare Officer, who both emphasized the importance of community engagement and protecting the welfare of persons affected by the project.

The Ntenjeru-Bule Road project, officially launched on October 2, 2025, by the Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, is being executed by China Railway No. 5, with supervision by Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) and Gesh Consultants, who oversee environmental and social safeguards.

Valued at Shs37 billion, the project is expected to be completed within 18 months under the GKMA-UDP, which aims to strengthen urban infrastructure and enhance service delivery across the Greater Kampala region.

Speaking during the visit, Nassazi praised the contractor for maintaining quality and pace. She urged local leaders and residents to support the project by protecting road reserves and preventing vandalism.

"Improved roads not only ease transport but also enhance access to schools, health facilities, and markets, which promotes economic empowerment, especially for women and youth," Nassazi said.

"As the Gender Committee, we are proud of the work being done. Once this road is completed, it will open up Mpatta and neighboring areas for better social and economic transformation."
