Uganda: Notorious Robber Posing As Soldier Arrested in Kotido

9 November 2025

Security forces in Kotido District have arrested a 21-year-old man accused of terrorizing residents while disguised in military uniform, in a move authorities say will help restore calm and confidence in the community.

The suspect, identified as Apanamut Mojong, a resident of Lokitelaebu Town Council, was captured during a joint operation by the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF).

Police said the arrest followed a series of complaints from residents who reported a man dressed in army fatigues and brandishing firearms while robbing people in trading centers around Lokitelaebu.

Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson, IP Mike Longole, confirmed the arrest, describing it as a major breakthrough in efforts to curb criminal activity in the area.

"The suspect was using military clothing to disguise himself and instill fear among residents," Longole said. "He is now in our custody and will be interrogated further before facing prosecution."

Security officials commended the vigilance of local residents, urging continued collaboration with authorities to strengthen community policing and prevent similar crimes.

"We encourage the public to remain alert and report any suspicious persons or activities," Longole added.

"Community cooperation remains key to maintaining peace and security across Kotido and the wider Karamoja region."
