Africa: AUC Chairperson Received Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, Special Envoy of the President of Azerbaijan

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, today received Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, Special Envoy of the President of Azerbaijan. Amb. Amirbayov conveyed a message from H.E. President Ilham Aliyev, including an invitation to the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum & the Leaders' Summit in Baku in May 2026.

Their meeting underscored the commitment to strengthen AU-Azerbaijan cooperation, including through a prospective framework agreement to deepen strategic ties.

The Chairperson welcomed Azerbaijan's comparative advantages in digital innovation, public service transformation, trade facilitation, & advanced connectivity; areas that align closely with Africa's development priorities & the AU's reform agenda.

Mr. Amirbayov reaffirmed Azerbaijan's growing engagement across Africa, recognising the continent's vast potential, & commended Mr. Youssouf's leadership, expressing his country's readiness to partner with the AU Commission in cooperation.
