Uganda: Nakalema Urges Students to Embrace Integrity and Resilience in Nation-Building

19 November 2025

The head of the State House Investors Protection Unit, Col Edith Nakalema, on Tuesday urged students of St. Mary's College Kisubi (SMACK) to cultivate integrity, resilience and courageous leadership, saying Uganda's future depends on citizens committed to building and protecting the country's progress.

Speaking during an engagement with students, Nakalema said she was struck by the "rare energy" and curiosity of the learners, noting that such openness to questioning is critical for producing leaders who can navigate national challenges.

"Our conversation moved beyond motivation and into the real disciplines that shape a leader: resilience, integrity and the courage to stay the course when it matters most," she said.

Nakalema emphasised that Uganda needs young people who can "build, protect and elevate our national journey with conviction," adding that leadership requires depth, self-discipline and a commitment to national values.

She also praised the school administration for creating an environment that supports meaningful dialogue with the country's future leaders.

"I am grateful to Brother Simon Mpanga and the entire SMACK community for fostering a space where such dialogue can thrive," she said.

Invoking the school motto "Duc In Altum," Nakalema said great leadership is forged by those willing to go deeper in character and purpose, adding that the nation's future will be shaped by such grounded leaders.
