Uganda: Museveni Urges Wealth Creation As He Begins Western Campaign in Kisoro

President Museveni has begun his Western Uganda campaign in Kisoro District, where he was welcomed by residents who said the peace and stability under his leadership remain central to their continued support.

Kisoro, a long-standing NRM stronghold bordering Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, gave Museveni nearly 90 percent of its vote in 2021.

Many locals said they intend to back him again, citing steady development and security in the region.

Woman MP Grace Akifeza Ngabirano and NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, Jonard Asiimwe, highlighted the community's appreciation for government achievements.

Former Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura also noted that Kisoro's history of cross-border instability has made residents especially protective of the peace restored under Museveni's administration.

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa acknowledged ongoing infrastructure challenges, particularly tourism roads, but said major government projects are underway to transform the region.

He stressed that these developments are driven by consistent government effort, not opposition pressure.

"I want to encourage leaders in the region to focus on consolidating the progress already made," Tayebwa said.

Addressing supporters, President Museveni reiterated his long-standing message on peace, job creation and strengthening household incomes.

"I want to emphasize that job creation is rooted in wealth creation," Museveni said.

After his engagements in Kisoro, the President proceeded to Rubanda District. Speaking at Kabirizi Playground, State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi, who also chairs NRM in Rubanda, praised the government's achievements in road infrastructure, schools and health facilities.

He, however, noted that the district needs an iron ore processing plant and a technical institute.

"On behalf of the people of Rubanda, we request that government should think of establishing an iron ore factory since Rubanda is rich with iron ore," Musasizi said.

President Museveni is today expected to visit Rukiga and Kabale districts as he continues his campaign across the Kigezi Sub-region.
