IN SHORT: Several Facebook users have posted an image they claim shows Kenya's former president Uhuru Kenyatta on a hospital bed. But all signs point to an image generated using artificial intelligence tools.
An image doing the rounds on Facebook in November 2025 appears to show Kenya's former president Uhuru Kenyatta sitting on a hospital bed.
The hospital gown he is wearing has the text: "JOMO KENYANTTA NATIONAL HOSPITAL FIGHTING FOR CANCER."
Some of the captions are asking Kenyans to pray for Kenyatta, "as he fights cancer at Jomo Kenyatta National Hospital".

The same photo also appears here, here and here.
Kenyatta served as president of Kenya from 2013 to 2022.
Following the death of his friend and Kenyan banker Frank Ireri in October 2025, Kenyatta publicly hinted that he had been facing health challenges.
But is this image proof that the former president is seeking treatment at a hospital? We checked.
Doctored image
Some of the posts claim that he is at the "Jomo Kenyatta National Hospital", while the hospital gown mispells it as "KENYANTTA". But the correct name of the facility, the oldest hospital in the capital, Nairobi, is Kenyatta National Hospital. It's unlikely that the name of the hospital would be misspelled on the hospital gown.
We also noticed the logo of Google's Gemini at the bottom-left corner of the photo, suggesting that it was produced by the company's generative AI system.
Generative AI is an application of artificial intelligence that can create new things, like writing, images, music or videos, based on patterns it has learned from data. It works like an intelligent computer system, generating content when instructed, or prompted, to do so.
There are also no media reports to support the claim that Kenyatta has been hospitalised, which is a major red flag.
All signs point to a doctored image that should be ignored.
