Uganda: Museveni Pledges Industrial Park in Kyegegwa

9 December 2025

President Museveni has announced that government has secured 10 square miles of land in Kyaka to establish a major industrial park, which will host several factories including an avocado processing plant.

He said the industrial park will spur job creation, value addition, and increased household incomes in Kyegegwa District.

Museveni made the remarks while addressing a campaign rally at Wekomire Parish in Kyegegwa District.

He noted that the people of Kyegegwa had expressed a strong desire for industrialisation, and the government was ready to respond.

He emphasised that factories remain a key source of employment--currently providing jobs to 1.3 million Ugandans--and will help lift more households into the money economy.

The President also introduced the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto for 2026-2031, highlighting seven major contributions the party has made over the last 40 years, starting with the restoration of peace.

He noted that Kyaka is among the areas that fully appreciate the value of peace, having hosted refugees for many years and experienced insecurity during the liberation struggle.

On development, President Museveni pointed to significant progress in road and electricity infrastructure. He explained that while the tarmac road once ended in Mityana, the government has since rehabilitated existing roads and constructed new ones.

Plans are underway to build the Kazo-Kabogore-Kyegegwa-Kapuyo road. He also noted that all sub-counties in Kyegegwa are now connected to the national electricity grid.

The President addressed several service delivery challenges highlighted in the district fact sheet, particularly in education, health, and water access.

He acknowledged that 41 parishes still lack a government primary school, and confirmed that the government is constructing four new seed secondary schools to reduce the number of sub-counties without a government secondary school.

In the health sector, he noted that only nine out of 19 sub-counties have functional health facilities. Upgrades and new HCIIIs are planned in Kigambo, Migongwe, Migamba, Ruhangire, Bugogo, Kyatega, Hapuuyo, Kakabara, and Mpara.

On water access, President Museveni expressed concern that only 256 out of 677 villages have safe water sources. He pledged that the government will draw water from River Muzizi to improve supply across the district.

Additionally, he reiterated the NRM's commitment to wealth creation, encouraging residents to adopt the four-acre model. He also warned against the mismanagement of the Parish Development Model (PDM) funds, stressing that every beneficiary must receive the full Shs 1 million.

The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Region Jonard Asiimwe, and Kyegegwa District Chairperson Wilson Byabona all praised the President's development efforts and pledged strong support in the forthcoming election.
