Uganda: King's College Budo Shines At 2025 International Young Mathematicians Convention

King's College, Budo (KCB) has made a remarkable debut on the global mathematics stage, securing multiple medals and team trophies at the 2025 International Young Mathematicians Convention (IYMC) held in Lucknow, India.

The biennial competition, hosted by City Montessori School (CMS) from November 3-6, brought together young mathematicians from Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia, with the largest contingent coming from India. Representing

Uganda under the national team name Team Nebula, King's College Budo fielded 17 students, accompanied by five mathematics teachers: Mrs. Nabunya Margaret Kabuye, Mr. Lubega James, Mr. Walusimbi John, Mrs. Nakiranda Grace Muwanguzi, and delegation leader Mrs. Assumpta Kasamba.

Despite being first-time participants, the students delivered outstanding performances. In the individual contests, Otile Jensen, Atamba Jayden, and Kizito Cleophas each won silver medals in the Junior Category, while Kasiima Joshua earned a bronze medal in the Senior Category. Bronze medals were also awarded to Junior participants Kasirye Sira Nsibirwa and Namakula Skyler.

Team Nebula continued its strong showing in group competitions. The school secured the First Runner-Up position in the Mathmania team contest and claimed two Second Runner-Up positions in the same category.

They also finished as Second Runner-Up in the Crack the Code puzzle contest and in the Junior Overall Category. Their spirited and collaborative presence earned them "The Beloved Bunch" award for Most Popular Team.

Beyond mathematics, Team Nebula triumphed in the inter-cultural performance segment, where they were crowned champions for a vibrant and energetic presentation that showcased Uganda's artistic heritage.

Mr. Lubega James, Head of the Mathematics Department, praised the students' commitment and expressed gratitude to the Headmaster, Canon John Fred Kazibwe, for his unwavering support. He noted that the international exposure and certificates earned at IYMC will strengthen students' prospects for further studies abroad.

King's College Budo's exceptional debut at IYMC marks a significant milestone for the school, reinforcing its rising prominence in global academic competitions.
