Uganda: Nakaseke District Boss Survives Brutal Night Attack

9 December 2025

The Territorial Police in Nakaseke District are investigating an attempted murder of the District Vice Chairperson, Richard Mavuma, who survived a violent attack on Monday night.

The incident occurred around 10:30pm on December 8, in Katale Zone, Ssemuto Town Council, as Mavuma was returning home.

According to police, a group of unidentified assailants armed with pangas and sticks ambushed him at the entrance of his gate.

Mavuma sustained deep cuts and multiple injuries, and his vehicle was vandalized. He was rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment.

Police spokesperson for the Savannah Region, ASP Sam Twiineamazima, confirmed that officers responded swiftly to the distress call.

"Our team documented the scene, took photographs, and deployed canine units. Unfortunately, the dogs' efforts were disrupted by interference from residents who had gathered at the scene," Twiineamazima said.

He added that attempts to retrieve CCTV footage from the neighbourhood have so far been unsuccessful.

"The motive behind this attack remains unclear, but investigations are ongoing. We urge anyone with useful information to come forward and help identify the perpetrators," he said.

The district leadership has condemned the attack and called for calm as security agencies pursue the culprits.

Police have assured the public that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
