The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem, has called for renewed solidarity and deeper cooperation between Uganda and the Syrian Republic, stressing the importance of strengthening the longstanding bond between the two nations.
Speaking during celebrations to mark Syrian Liberation Day at Hotel Africana, Okello Oryem reaffirmed Uganda's commitment to supporting peaceful resolutions to conflicts affecting Syria.
He noted that the two countries have enjoyed decades of friendship rooted in cultural and knowledge exchange and emphasized that there is room for even greater collaboration.
"Uganda remains committed to supporting peaceful and lasting solutions to the challenges facing the Syrian Republic," he said.

"There are vast opportunities for deeper technical and developmental cooperation, and Uganda is ready to explore them. Uganda will always stand by Syria."
The event, organized by the Consulate of the Arab Republic of Syria in Uganda, brought together diplomats, religious leaders, and government officials.
The Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, represented the Mufti of Uganda.
Dr Tamouth Moustafa, the Honorary Syrian Consul to Uganda, described the day as a historical celebration of freedom and resilience.
He acknowledged that despite significant progress, Syria still faces challenges, including "continued aggression from Israel and other obstacles that slow full recovery."
He also praised Uganda for its hospitality, noting that many Syrians have successfully established businesses in the country.
The Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubaje, reaffirmed the new Syrian leadership's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with African nations.
Uganda and Syria continue to explore areas of mutual interest, including trade, education, and cultural exchange, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and supporting regional stability.
