The African Development Bank Group's incoming country manager for Sudan, David Muthusi Mutuku, formally presented his credentials to Muhi al-Din Salem Ahmed, Sudan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, on 7 December in Port Sudan, the country's temporary seat of government. The meeting affirmed the strong partnership between the institution and the East African country.
Minister Ahmed commended the Bank Group for its decades of strong cooperation with Sudan, citing sustained support for flagship investments in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and human development. He expressed appreciation for the Bank's continued engagement during the ongoing conflict, as national systems, institutions, and communities have been strained.
"The presentation of credentials marks a renewed phase of engagement at a critical moment for the country's recovery, reconstruction, and future growth," Ahmed said.
Mutuku, a seasoned financial management expert with decades of experience in the public and private sectors that also included sixteen years with the Bank Group, expressed gratitude for the Government of Sudan's continued confidence in the African Development Bank Group.
He said, "The African Development Bank has stood with Sudan over the decades, and it will remain at Sudan's side to support its national development priorities during this difficult period and beyond. Working closely with the government and other development partners, we will continue to deploy tailored financial instruments, technical expertise, and innovative solutions to address both the country's immediate needs and its long term development ambitions."
"Together, we will help lay the foundations for economic stability, rehabilitation and reconstruction, and ultimately for more inclusive and sustainable growth for the benefit of all the people of Sudan," Mutuku concluded.
A founding shareholder of the Bank Group, Sudan remains a strategic partner in the institution's mission to promote an integrated, prosperous, and resilient Africa.
