Uganda: MP David Muhumuza Withdraws From Mwenge North County Race

11 December 2025

David Muhumuza, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Mwenge North County, Kyenjojo District, has officially withdrawn his candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In a letter December 9, 2025 letter addressed to the District Registrar of the Independent Electoral Commission in Kyenjojo, Muhumuza announced his decision to step down from the race.

"After careful consideration, this is to inform you that I have withdrawn my candidature for the above position for the unity, cohesion and harmony of my Constituency and region at large," Muhumuza wrote in the letter.

He emphasised that the decision was made voluntarily and without external pressure.

"This decision has been undertaken out of my free will without any duress, intimidation or undue influence," he noted.

The withdrawal letter was forwarded to the Returning Officer of the Electoral Commission for further action and management.

Muhumuza's decision is expected to pave the way for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Lawrence Akuguzibwe, in the Mwenge North County parliamentary race.

The letter was witnessed by Byamukama Posiano and Tumwesigye Tumbu, whose signatures appear alongside Muhumuza's on the document.
