The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on young couples to uphold marriage as a lifelong covenant founded on mutual responsibility, sacrifice and unwavering commitment.
Mayiga delivered the message through the Second Deputy Katikkiro and Buganda Kingdom Treasurer, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, during the holy matrimony of Lukenge Stephen Muweereza and Annet Namulindwa at Lubaga Cathedral on Saturday.
He expressed joy at seeing young people, particularly those serving the Buganda Kingdom, embracing the institution of marriage and choosing lifelong partners.
"Marriage is a lifelong covenant. It is an agreement between two people, much like a pact, where each partner understands the other, works for the good of one another, protects each other and remains committed in all circumstances," Mayiga said.

He further urged the bride, Annet Namulindwa, to support her husband in his demanding responsibilities, noting that successful marriages are built on cooperation and mutual support.
"Stephen Lukenge's work requires dedication, patience and time. Your support as a wife will enable him to serve the Kabaka diligently and with a joyful heart," he added.
Lukenge Stephen Muweereza is the Head of the Palace Supervision and Maintenance Department at the Nkukuze Royal Treasury, where he oversees the maintenance of key palace facilities, including royal heritage sites.
The wedding Mass was presided over by the Bishop of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Lawrence Mukasa. In his homily, the Bishop commended the Buganda Kingdom for nurturing Lukenge into a disciplined, responsible and dependable young man, noting that such upbringing had prepared him to commit to marriage at a young age.
He advised the newlyweds to build their marriage on strong Christian values, including faithfulness, mutual understanding, respect, cooperation and love, describing these as essential foundations for a stable and lasting union.
In his remarks, Deputy Katikkiro Nsibirwa congratulated the couple on attaining the sacred milestone of holy matrimony. He described Lukenge as a calm, thoughtful and efficient individual who performs his duties with professionalism and care, encouraging him to carry the same virtues into his marriage.
Nsibirwa also applauded Lukenge for setting a positive example for young people by embracing marriage at a time when many shy away from such commitment, and wished the couple a peaceful and prosperous married life.
The ceremony was attended by several Buganda Kingdom ministers, including the Minister of Local Government, Kabaka's Tours and Diaspora Affairs, Joseph Kawuki; the Minister of Social Services (Education and Health) and the Nnaabagereka's Office, Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko; and the Minister for Lukiiko, Information, Cabinet Affairs and Protocol, Noah Kiyimba.
Other attendees included Kingdom officials John Kitenda and Simon Kabogozza, fellow Kingdom staff, family members, friends and well-wishers.
