National Unity Platform presidential candidate and party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu on Monday set out from the party's headquarters to begin a fresh phase of his 2026 election campaign, starting with scheduled engagements in Makindye East and Makindye West divisions.

Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, departed the party's central offices in the company of party officials, grassroots organisers and supporters, marking the start of what NUP leaders say will be an intensified nationwide campaign tour ahead of the 2026 polls.

Before proceeding to the Makindye engagements, Kyagulanyi paid a courtesy visit to Prince Kasim Nakibinge, a senior cultural leader, in what party officials described as part of broader consultations with community and cultural figures as the campaign gathers momentum.

His first rallies are planned for Makindye West and Makindye East, areas where the party says it has been strengthening mobilisation structures in recent months.

Local NUP leaders said preparations had been made to ensure organised and peaceful gatherings, with coordination involving community leaders and volunteers.

During the public engagements, Kyagulanyi is expected to outline key messages under the party's "A New Uganda Now" campaign theme, focusing on governance, economic reform and political accountability, which NUP says form the core of its policy agenda for the 2026 elections.

Local party officials expressed optimism about the growing support for Kyagulanyi's candidacy and urged supporters to remain peaceful and disciplined as the country moves deeper into what is expected to be a highly contested election season.
