Uganda: PFF's Salaamu Musumba Pledges Action-Oriented Leadership As She Eyes Bugabula South Seat

Proscovia Salaamu Musumba, People's Front for Freedom (PFF) aspirant for Bugabula South, has called for urgent reforms in Uganda's education system and a renewed commitment to accountable leadership, noting that the constituency has suffered a steady decline in quality representation over the past four parliaments.

Speaking during the Bugabula South Parliamentary Debate hosted by NBS Television on Sunday, Musumba drew on her personal experience to highlight what she described as a worrying deterioration in education standards, particularly in rural areas.

"The education system needs to be revived. I studied in rural areas many years ago, and the quality of education then was far better than what we see today. This decline threatens the future of our children and the competitiveness of our country," she said.

Musumba argued that Bugabula South has not benefited from effective and courageous leadership since her departure from Parliament, resulting in missed opportunities for development and service delivery.

"Since I left Parliament 20 years ago, Bugabula has experienced a decline in quality representation. Leadership must be visible, accountable, and willing to stand up for the people," she said.

Emphasizing her leadership philosophy, Musumba pledged to lead by example if entrusted with the mandate of Bugabula South voters, stressing that her record reflects action rather than rhetoric.

"I want to lead by example, ensuring that everything I say is reflected in action. This is not new to my leadership style. I have always prioritized service delivery and results that directly improve people's lives," she said.

Musumba also criticized what she described as fear-driven leadership, urging leaders to demonstrate courage in addressing community challenges.

"The problem with some people is a lack of courage. I am not a coward. I take action," she firmly stated.

Musumba will face off with Matayo Bazaanya of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Andrew Muwanguzi of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Ronald Kirimani Kabanda of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), as well as independent candidates Sanon Moses Dhizaala, Patricia Katagwa, and Robert Gwaivu.

All are seeking to succeed outgoing legislator Henry Maurice Kibalya, who has represented the constituency since 2021 under the ruling NRM ticket.
