Uganda: AIGP Tom Magambo Distances Self From Prof.Kateregga Family Dispute

22 December 2025

The Police Director for Criminal Investigations (CID), AIGP Tom Magambo, has dismissed as false a circulating WhatsApp message linking him to the ongoing family dispute between businessman Professor Badru Kateregga and his wife.

Magambo described the message as misleading and malicious, stressing that it wrongly associates him with a matter that is purely civil.

"As you may recall, the Police PRO publicly updated the country on their family conflict and advised them to handle the issue as a civil matter. As CID, we have no powers to intervene," Magambo said.

He emphasized that the Criminal Investigations Directorate has not taken sides and has issued no directives regarding the dispute, warning the public against spreading unverified information that could mislead or incite tension.

"For the record, I have never met Prof. Katerega or his wife personally. The insinuation that we know each other should be rejected with the contempt it deserves. Let's focus on building our motherland, Uganda," he added.

Magambo also cautioned that individuals who generate or circulate false information risk legal consequences under existing laws governing the misuse of electronic communications.
