The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, the Right Reverend Moses Banja, has urged Ugandans to pray earnestly for peace as the country approaches the next general elections, warning that poor leadership choices and political intolerance could plunge the nation into instability.
Bishop Banja made the call while leading prayers at St. Paul's Church Kisimbiri in Wakiso District during a confirmation service in which 220 children were confirmed into the Anglican faith.
"We need to pray fervently for our country and seek God's guidance so that we can elect leaders of integrity who will bring freedom and lasting peace to Uganda," Bishop Banja said.
He encouraged Christians to remain spiritually vigilant during what he described as a sensitive and politically charged period, noting that the kind of leaders elected has a direct bearing on national unity, security and development.

"Uganda should not be dragged back into war like some countries we see on the news where people are killed every day," he warned.
"I appeal to the security agencies to play their role professionally and ensure peace during the forthcoming elections."
The bishop also urged political aspirants to exercise restraint and responsibility, calling on them to put the interests of the country above personal ambition.
He stressed that peaceful elections are critical for economic growth and social stability.
Turning to family life, Bishop Banja reminded parents of their duty to provide proper moral and spiritual guidance to their children, especially at a time when young people face increasing social and moral pressures.
"Parents must take great care of their children so that they are not misled into immoral behaviour that contradicts who they are," he said.
"Our children should grow in a way that gives glory to God."
Christians at St Paul's Church Kisimbiri joined in prayers for the nation, its leaders and the newly confirmed children, expressing hope for a peaceful election season and a stable future for Uganda.
