Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery have announced a major expansion of their long-standing strategic partnership, signing a new multi-year, multi-territory agreement that significantly strengthens their collaboration internationally.
The expanded deal covers the distribution of HBO Max as well as the renewal of several Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) thematic television channels across multiple markets in Africa and Europe.
The agreement marks a key milestone in the two companies' efforts to broaden access to premium entertainment, news, children's and documentary content.
The new partnership builds on landmark agreements concluded in France in 2024, which included the renewal of the exclusive pay-TV window for Warner Bros. Pictures films six months after their theatrical release and the integration of HBO Max into selected Canal+ offers. It also follows a 2025 agreement in Poland that renewed the distribution of 22 thematic channels, including TVN24 and Eurosport, as well as four free-to-air channels.

Expanded Reach Across Africa
Under the new agreement, Canal+ will continue distributing 12 Warner Bros. Discovery thematic channels across MultiChoice Group territories in Africa, with some channels offered on an exclusive basis.
CNN International and Cartoon Network will be carried exclusively in South Africa and non-exclusively in other markets, while Cartoon Network Porto will be exclusive to Angola and Mozambique. Other channels, including Discovery Channel, TLC, HGTV, Food Network, ID, Cartoonito, TNT Africa and Travel Channel, will be distributed on a non-exclusive basis.
The deal strengthens Canal+'s channel portfolio across African markets, enhancing its offering in entertainment, children's programming, news and factual content.
Stronger Footprint in Europe
In Europe, the partnership has been renewed and expanded through several strategic agreements. Canal+ will continue to distribute Cartoon Network, Cartoonito and CNN International in Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, alongside the renewal of Warner TV in the Czech Republic.
The agreement also includes the renewal of HBO Max, HBO and Cinemax across Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. In addition, HBO Max distribution via Canal+ will expand into two new European markets: Belgium and Austria.
The renewed partnership enhances access for Canal+ subscribers to Warner Bros. Discovery's flagship content, including premium films and series, while reinforcing the studio's international reach across both established and emerging markets.
The agreement covers a wide range of MultiChoice territories in Africa, including Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, among others, underscoring the scale and ambition of the expanded collaboration.
